COMPLEX MARINE TOWING OPERATION ON THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER
Spectacular towing on the St. Lawrence River
Québec, 2016 – After being towed from Davie Shipyard to wharf 30 at the Port of Québec, the dead ship Cecon Excellence has to be towed by Ocean Group one last time to anchorage point Delta, west of Ile d’Orléans.
Prior to this spectacular operation, Ocean Naval and Industrial Repairs (NIR) teams work relentlessly to complete the final preparations for the transfer of the powerless vessel onto the impressive semi-submersible ship Transshelf.
Four tugs from Ocean Remorquage Québec are deployed to bring the Cecon Excellence near the Transshelf and keep it in place. The carrier must be submerged to 18.5 meters to ensure that its passenger is well positioned before they can come up to the surface. This delicate operation lasts more than eight hours.
Subsequently, NIR employees work day and night during five days to carry out the last operations to secure the transposition before the grand departure to a shipyard in Bulgaria.
