Good news in regards to the relaunch of the New Brunswick Naval Center
Québec, June 27, 2016 – Good news in regards to the relaunch of the New Brunswick Naval Center. The federal government announced last Friday that it is ready to invest up to $ 12 million to allow the provincial government to become the owner of the Naval Centre, located in Bas-Caraquet. The Government of New Brunswick had announced its intention to do so on April 16th in order to put an end to the naval center’s funding problems.
Let us recall that Ocean New Brunswick (ONB) had to cease its activities in Bas-Caraquet last December and announced to some of its employees that seasonal layoffs would be necessary until a lasting solution was found for the various financial challenges facing the naval center. ONB wanted to reduce the impact of the situation by offering its 28 employees in New Brunswick to be relocated in another Ocean operational site. They will be invited back to Bas-Caraquet and to continue the work already started on the floating drydock once agreements are finalized.
Ocean is in constant contact with the Government of New Brunswick and works to resume operations as soon as possible.
