Transportation of oversized parts on a lift barge for Valero
Transportation of oversized parts
Valero Energy – Jean Gaulin Refinery calls upon Ocean Group to transport oversized parts
Québec, 2018 – Due to the size and weight of certain fragile, made-to-measure parts for the refinery, marine transportation between Montréal and Québec was found to be the best option.
On two occasions, the refinery calls upon Ocean Group’s marine transportation services to deliver the oversized parts. One of the parts is a flare weighing 180,000 lbs and measuring more than 81’ long, 14’ wide and 13’ high. The other is a cylinder weighing more than 33,000 lbs, with a diameter of 23’.
Loaded on a flatbed trailer at the production site, the parts are transported to the Port of Montréal. The trailer is then driven onto the NT 1524 barge, equipped with a lift platform, which is towed by an Ocean Group tug to the wharf at Davie Shipyard, the closest wharf to the refinery facilities in Lévis.
