OCEAN GROUP TUGS RESCUE THE BBC STEINHOEFT
An operation carried out in record time
Montréal, 2011 – The tugs OCEAN GEORGIE BAIN and OCEAN INTREPIDE free the bulk carrier BBC Steinhoeft, which ran aground between the Victoria and Jacques-Cartier bridges in Montréal. At 138 m long, the vessel completely blocks the shipping channel in both directions.
It takes only 20 minutes for the two Ocean Group tugs to perform the assistance manoeuvres needed to free the ship from its unfortunate position and tow it to the Port of Montréal. This quick response allowed to limit the closure of the St. Lawrence Seaway to just a few hours.
